A world-class destination spa offering a nurturing, transformational journey.
This is it. We have found heaven — or at least as close to it as we’re going to get for now. Mii amo, a destination spa at Enchantment resort was added to the Arizona spa scene in January 2001 and since then has won numerous awards including being named America’s top destination spa by Travel + Leisure Magazine readers. As the name suggests, Mii amo is located on the 70-acre Enchantment property, where resort guests can visit the spa on a day basis or stay on-site in a guest room and participate in one of the three, four and seven-night spa packages. Mii amo is among the few destination spas with this flexibility, making it a great option for families with little ones or couples who don’t both want to do the spa thing.
Whichever option you choose, you’ll find yourself up close and personal with the beauty that makes Sedona world famous. Nestled in the deep red rocks of Boynton Canyon, Mii amo is adjacent to Boynton Canyon Trail, one of several key vortex points in the canyon and not surprisingly, an area Native Americans consider sacred. The spa offers breathtaking views of the canyon throughout. Simple lines and a blend of adobe brick, indigenous stone and wood detailing quietly complement these monumental surroundings. The decor, one part Sedona, one part Swiss, one part Zen, is a formula that adds up perfectly. The second floor is chapel quiet — inspiring a slow, careful gait worthy of approaching an altar. On this floor, we find 19 clean, simplistic and spacious treatment rooms that make us crave a good facial. The spa also has five outdoor treatment areas shaded by wooden trellises (inspired by the Native American “wickiup”), the perfect atmosphere for massage, meditation and watsu therapy.
Next we proceed to the Crystal Grotto, the philosophical heart of Mii amo. Based on the Native American kiva, this very special room features an earthen floor and an aperture in the domed ceiling carefully positioned so that during the summer solstice, the rays of the sun center on the room, falling onto its fountain in the middle. Each morning, guests, staff and therapists gather in the Crystal Grotto to set their intentions for the day. Essential oils used in treatments are energized every night in this room and discussion groups, guided meditation and other small presentations are also held in this healing, peaceful environment.
The spa cafe features what they tell us is contemporary eclectic spa cuisine, combining Asian, Southwest and classic flavors. All recipes use organic, macrobiotic and local produce complemented by indigenous herbs, peppers and tomatoes. And we love the communal table where guests have been known to eat together as they form friendships throughout the duration of their stay.
As we walk toward the guest casitas, we immediately get a sense of community because of the village layout. On the outside, the adobe casitas are inviting, humble and lush with natural landscaping and plenty mature cottonwood and sycamore trees to provide shade. Inside, the casitas continue that Sedona, Swiss, Zen look, with high quality furnishings and unique art accents. Every room includes a private patio or balcony, beehive fireplace, TV, two-line phone, mini-bar, coffee maker, hair dryer, iron, ironing board, robe, slippers and nice, deep tubs. Suites also include a private courtyard, indoor fireplace, outdoor shower, living and dining room. And if you want to splurge, go for the luxury suite, which comes with an extra room where you can receive in-room treatments. Rest assured (no pun intended) we’re convinced that no matter what room, treatments or time of year you choose to visit Mii amo, you’ll leave happy and renewed.
Guests staying at Mii amo receive three meals a day, non-alcoholic beverages, private sessions and/or consultations, have unlimited access to fitness center and classes, lectures, cooking demonstrations, tennis, mountain bikes, concierge services as well as access to the services and facilities at Enchantment Resort.
